DENVER Tulsas Heather Hiar and Julie Fennell have been named the Western Athletic Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. Both are earning their first player of the week honors. The Golden Hurricane have now earned both player and pitcher of the week honors twice this season.
Hiar, a senior from Cypress, Calif. (Cypress), went 8-for-16 with five extra base hits for a .875 slugging percentage. She had a .550 on-base percentage on the weekend. She was 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI against Temple. She recorded at least one hit in four of five games, earned three walks in the one game without a hit. She leads team with 15 hits on the year.
Fennell, a freshman from Valliant, Okla. (Valliant), earned first her collegiate shutout with a five-inning complete game run-rule of North Carolina State. Fennell allowed only one hit in four innings of relief against No. 26 South Florida, not allowing a runner past second base.
