DENVER Rices Stephen Magness and UTEPs Adriana Pirtea have been named the Western Athletic Conference mens and womens Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively.
Magenss, a freshman from Spring, Texas, had a hand in accruing 20 points for the Owls in the teams third place finish. Won the 3,000 meters with the time of 8:23.23, almost five seconds ahead of the field. Also ran the 800 meter leg of the distance medley relay with the Owls winning in 10:13.00.
Pirtea, a junior from Bucharest, Romania, took the 3,000-meter title in a NCAA provisional time of 9:23.78 at the Husker Invitational. The time is the ninth fastest in the NCAA this season and third fastest in school history.
