GOLFER OF THE WEEK SMUs Will Dodson, a sophomore from Tulsa, Okla., shot a final round four under 68 on the par 72, 7,083 yard course as the SMU men's golf team won for the third straight year at the Louisiana Classic in Lafayette, La. Dodson's final round 68 landed the him at five under-par (211) for the tournament, just one shot off the individual title that was taken by Kansas's Kevin Ward who finished six under (210). Dodson finished the tournament with the second most birdies all week (11) and had the best par four scoring of any player in the field (-2).
As a team, SMU totaled the most birdies all week, carding 42 one-under scores for the tournament. The win was SMU's second win of the 2003-04 season and the team's sixth win since the beginning of the 2002-03 season.

BARYLA RANKED IN GOLFSTAT TOP 10 UTEP senior Chris Baryla, a Vernon, British Columbia native, is currently ranked seventh by the Golfstat rankings. He owns a 69.38 strokes per round average to lead the WAC. Baryla is one of four WAC golfers to have taken a title this year. Baryla won the Barona Cup in San Diego, firing a -17, 199 in October of 2003. Baryla finished the 2003 fall season ranked seventh by Golf Stat.
WAC PAIR LEADS THE NATION IN GOLFSTAT RANKINGS UTEPs Chris Baryla and Hawaiis Matthew Kodama both lead the nation in a Golfstat ranking. Baryla leads the nation in par 5 scoring, averaging 4.39 per hole. Kodama is tops in the nation in subpar strokes per round at 5.17.
SMU WINS THIRD-STRAIGHT LOUISIANA CLASSIC For the third consecutive year, SMU won the Louisiana Classic. The Mustangs fired a final round 291 to win by one stroke over Kansas. SMU finished the tournament at one over-par (865) on the Oakbourne C.C. course in Lafayette, La. Kansas finished second with an 866 (+2) while Texas Tech took third at four over (868) for the tournament. WAC TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD IN FRESNO The 2004 WAC Tournament will be held May 3-5 in Fresno, Calif., at the San Joaquin Country Club. Host Fresno State is looking for back-to-back wins after taking home the 2003 title in Houston. Tulsa senior David Inglis will be looking for his fourth-straight individual championship. He already holds the WAC record with the three he previously captured.
