Kirk Snyder led the Pack with 19 points while Todd Okeson added 14 points and was 8-of-8 from the free throw line. Nevada trailed by as many as 16 points in the first half before going on a 16-3 run to end the game. It was Nevadas first ever NCAA Tournament victory. Nevada had two previous appearances in the NCAA Tournament (1984 and 1985) and was 0-2. The Wolf Pack will play No. 2 Gonzaga on Saturday, March 21 at 12:20 p.m. (PT).

GONZAGA CAPSULE Nevadas next opponent, Gonzaga is 28-2 after beating Valparaiso in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, 76-49. The No. 2 seed Bulldogs have won 21 straight games. Gonzaga won both the regular season and tournament titles in the West Coast Conference. The only teams they lost to this season were Stanford and Saint Josephs. Head coach Mark Few is in his fifth season with the Bulldogs and is 133-31. This will be the seventh meeting between the two teams. Gonzaga is 4-2 in the series and won the last game played during the 1994-95 season, 90-75. Tulsa is the only WAC team that played Gonzaga this year, losing to the Bulldogs in ESPNs Bracket Buster Saturday event on Feb. 21, 76-56. The WAC is 4-6 versus West Coast Conference teams this year.

THE WAC IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT The WAC is 62-82 record (.431) in its teams 77 appearances in the NCAA Tournament. Last year, Tulsa made the leagues only appearance. The 13th-seeded Golden Hurricane beat No. 4 Dayton, 84-71, in the first round before losing to No. 5 Wisconsin, 61-60. In 1998, Utah advanced to the NCAA title game before losing to Kentucky, 78-69, in San Antonio. It was the furthest a WAC team had ever advanced. UTEP is the only current WAC team to have won a National Championship, but did so prior to joining the WAC (1966).

BOISE STATE HOSTS PANTHERS Boise State defeated UNLV, 84-69, in the opening round of the NIT on Wednesday night to advance to a first round matchup against Wisconsin-Milwaukee in Boise on Saturday night. Bryan Defares scored 12 points and dished out a school-record 13 assists against the Runnin Rebels while Jason Ellis also had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. The 13 assists are the most by a WAC player this season. Wisconsin-Milwaukee beat Rice in its first game of the NIT, 91-63. This is Boise States fourth trip to the NIT (1987-89-91-04). The Broncos are 2-3 (.400) in the tournament. If Boise State beats Wisconsin-Milwaukee, it would play at Marquette on March 23.

HAWAII DISPATCHES UTAH STATE Hawaii earned its first ever road win over a ranked opponent beating No. 25 Utah State, 85-74, in Logan on Wednesday night in the NIT. Michael Kuebler scored a game-high 28 points for the Bows while Jeff Blackett came off the bench to add 18. The Rainbow Warriors are 9-7 (.563) in the tournament. If Hawaii wins its next game, it would play the winner of Mondays game between Oklahoma and Michigan on March 24.

Hawaii beat UNLV, 85-68 before losing at Minnesota, 84-70. Nevada lost its first game, 66-54, to host Texas Tech. Two WAC teams have won the NIT title as Brigham Young did it in 1966 and Tulsa in 2001. Fresno State (1983) and Tulsa (1981) each wore the NIT crown prior to WAC membership.

FIVE IN POSTSEASON The five teams making appearances in this years postseason tournaments were the most since the 1999 season when the WAC placed eight teams as a 16-team conference. In its six previous seasons as a 10-team conference (1993-94-95-96-02-03), the most teams placed into the postseason had been four teams in 1994, 1996 and 2002.

FIVE TEAMS IN TOP 75 The WAC had five teams ranked in the top 75 in CollegeRPI.coms rankings prior to the national tournaments. Nevada was 29th, followed by UTEP at 46th, Rice at 63rd, Boise State at 72nd and Hawaii at 73rd. Three conferences ranked above the WAC in overall RPI had less than five teams ranked in the top 75: Big Ten (4), Pac-10 (3) and Mountain West (3).

FIVE WITH 20 For the first time as a 10-team conference (seven seasons), the WAC has five teams with 20 or more wins. Boise State, Hawaii, Nevada, Rice and UTEP all hit that mark this year. The last time the WAC had five 20-win teams came in 1998-99 when it was a 16-team conference. The WAC did have five with 20 twice as a nine-team league in 1987-88 and 1989-90.

NEVADA WINS MCCAFFREY WAC TOURNAMENT Nevada won its first WAC tournament title beating UTEP in the championship game, 66-60.
