DENVER Nevada outfielder Jacob Butler and Rice right-handed pitcher Philip Humber have been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for March 15-21.

Butler, a junior from Yelm, Wash. (Yelm HS), hit .444 (4-9) with six runs scored and seven RBI in four games for the Wolf Pack. On Friday, he hit a three-run homer in the botton of the ninth to cut Lewis-Clarks lead in half. The Pack went on to win the game 13-12. He had five RBIs in that game, tying for the most by a WAC player this year. For the week, he was walked seven times and had an on-base percentage of .647 and a slugging percentage of 1.222.

It is Butlers third career WAC Player of the Week award and fourth for a Wolf Pack player this year.

Humber, a junior from Carthage, Texas (Carthage HS), pitched a complete-game, four-hit shutout against Hawaii and struck out a school record 17 batters. Humber allowed just two walks and hit a batter in picking up the 3-0 victory.

It is Humbers second career WAC Pitcher of the Week award and third for an Owl this season.

Other player of the week nominations included: junior outfielder Greg Kish, Hawaii; and junior shortstop Paul Janish, Rice.

Additional pitcher of the week nominations included: junior Stephen Bryant, Hawaii; and freshman Jim McCarthy, Nevada.
