The WAC outdoor track and field season is in full swing. Tulsa opened its new track last week, facing Oklahoma State and Oral Roberts. The Golden Hurricane will host the 2005 WAC Outdoor Championship. There have already been a number of athletes that have qualified for NCAA Regionals. This years WAC Championship will be held at the Rice Track Stadium in Houston.

    WAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
    SMUs Jerome Bortoluzzi and Tulsas Shana Robinson have been named the Western Athletic Conference mens and womens Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively.

    Bortoluzzi, a sophomore from Amneville, France, won the hammer throw competition at the College Station Relays on the campus of Texas A&M. He broke the meet record with a NCAA regional qualifying throw of 65.51m.

    Robinson, a senior from Tulsa, Okla., tied her own school record in the 100-meter dash, crossing in a winning time of 11.35. She also regionally qualified in both the 100 and 200m in her first meet of the season. Her time in the 200m was 23.69, helping her to the win. Robinson also anchored the winning 4x100m relay team, who just missed the school record by a half second.

    2004 WAC CHAMPIONSHIP TO HELD IN HOUSTON - The 2004 edition of the WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship will be held, May 12-15 at the Rice Track Stadiium on the campus of Rice in Houston. The mulit events are scheduled for Wednesday, May 12 and Thursday, May 13 with the preliminaries and finals scheduled for Friday and Saturday. Rice last hosted the outdoor championship in 2002. The UTEP men and Rice women look to defend their 2003 outdoor titles.
