Men's golf hits its final month of regular-season play. Each team has atleast two more tournaments before the WAC Championship on May 3-5, in Fresno, Calif. UTEP's Chris Baryla heads up a list of five WAC golfers in the nation's top 70. Baryla currently owns a stroke average of 69.38, good for seventh. He also leads the nation in par 5 scoring at 4.39. Hawaii's Matt Kodama is just behind him at 4.42.

GOLFER OF THE WEEK UTEPs Dan Floyd has been selected as the Western Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week. Floyd, a senior from White Oak, Texas, posted a career-best runner-up finish at the Steve Kerr Invitational March 19-20 in Buckeye, Ariz. He carded a 212 (69-67-76), putting him seven strokes behind individual champion Barrett Jarosch of Denver. Floyd helped UTEP take second place at the tournament (287-294-293-874), one stroke behind champion Colorado State.

BARYLA RANKED IN GOLFSTAT TOP 10 UTEP senior Chris Baryla, a Vernon, British Columbia native, is currently ranked seventh by the Golfstat rankings. He owns a 69.38 strokes per round average to lead the WAC. Baryla is one of four WAC golfers to have taken a title this year. Baryla won the Barona Cup in San Diego, firing a -17, 199 in October of 2003. Baryla finished the 2003 fall season ranked seventh by Golf Stat.
WAC PAIR AMONG NATIONAL LEADERS IN GOLFSTAT RANKINGS UTEPs Chris Baryla and Hawaiis Matthew Kodama are in the top two in the Golfstat rankings. Baryla leads the nation in par 5 scoring, averaging 4.39 per hole. Kodama is just behind Baryla, posting an average of 4.42 on par 5s. Kodama is second in the nation in subpar strokes per round at 5.17.
WAC TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD IN FRESNO The 2004 WAC Tournament will be held May 3-5 in Fresno, Calif., at the San Joaquin Country Club. Host Fresno State is looking for back-to-back wins after taking home the 2003 title in Houston. Tulsa senior David Inglis will be looking for his fourth-straight individual championship. He already holds the WAC record with the three he previously captured.
