DENVER Rice outfielder Lance Pendleton and Hawaii right-handed pitcher Clary Carlsen have been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for March 22-28.
Pendleton, a sophomore from Kingwood, Texas (Kingwood HS), hit .571 (8-14) with four runs scored and nine RBI in four wins for the Owls. He began the week at 10th-ranked Texas A&M where he went 4-for-6 with three RBI and a home run. In a three-game sweep of Fresno State, he was 4-for-8 in the series with another home run and was walked four times.
It is Pendletons first career WAC Player of the Week award and second for an Owl this year.
Carlsen, a senior from Poulsbo, Wash. (Edmonds College), pitched his first career complete-game in Hawaiis 8-1 win at Louisiana Tech on Saturday. Carlsen allowed one unearned run on six hits and no walks while striking out four. He improved to 5-3 on the season with a 3.31 ERA.
It is Carlsens first career WAC Pitcher of the Week award and second for a Rainbow this season.
Other player of the week nominations included: sophomore second baseman Isaac Omura, Hawaii; senior outfielder Jeff Walker, Louisiana Tech; and freshman first baseman Brandon Fromm, San Jose State.
Additional pitcher of the week nominations included: junior Jeff Niemann, Rice; and sophomore Branden Dewing, San Jose State.
