DENVER Hawaii third baseman Rocky Russo and Louisiana Tech right-handed pitcher Clayton Meyer have been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for March 1-7.

Russo, a sophomore from Monterey, Calif. (Salinas HS), was named the Most Outstanding Player in the First Hawaii Title Rainbow Baseball Tournament last week. Russo hit .471 (8-17) with eight RBI in helping the Rainbows to a 5-0 record and their 13th tournament title. He also had three extra base hits, including a home run, and scored six runs and walked five times.

It is Russos first career WAC Player of the Week award and second for a Rainbow player this year.

Meyer, a junior from Victoria, Texas (Blinn), recorded a complete-game victory in Louisiana Techs 6-1 win over Alabama last Friday. He struck out six batters, walked one and gave up five hits. At one point in the contest, Meyer retired 15 straight hitters.

It is Meyers first career WAC Pitcher of the Week award.
