DENVER Fresno States Christina Clark and Hawaiis Shannon Tabion have been named the Western Athletic Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. Tabion is earning her first player of the week honor, while Clark was honored three times last season. It is the first honor for both this season.
Clark, a sophomore Santa Ana, Calif. (Mater) helped the Bulldogs to a 5-1 record last week. She led all Bulldogs with a .524 batting average after going 11-21 with six runs, three doubles, one triple, one walk, 2-2 in stolen bases, four RBI and 16 total bases for a .762 slugging percentage. In the home opener against UC Riverside, she batted a team-high .750 (6-8) with four runs, a double, a triple, three RBI, 1-for-1 in stolen bases and nine total bases for a 1.125 slugging percentage. In the doubleheader versus Santa Clara, Clark hit only .250 (2-8) but knocked in the tying run in the Bulldogs 2-1 win. She also scored a run and had a RBI. Against No. 18 Pacific, Clark batted .600 (3-5) with a run, two doubles, a walk, 1-1 in stolen bases and five total bases for a 1.000 slugging percentage.
Tabion, a junior from Wailuku, Maui (Baldwin), appeared and made six starts during the week. She went 5-1, losing only to Long Beach State in the Championship game (3-1) of the Malihini Tournament. On March 6, Tabion tossed her first perfect game in her collegiate career, 8-0 win over Siena College. It was the second ever perfect game tossed by a UH pitcher. The other came in 1994 by Brooke Wilkens (9-0) over New Mexico State. Tabion was also named to the all-tournament team as a pitcher.
