DENVER Nevada outfielder Jacob Butler and Rice right-handed pitcher Philip Humber have been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for April 5-11.
Butler, a junior from Yelm, Wash. (Yelm HS), was 11-for-18 (.611) in four wins for the Wolf Pack last week. He scored eight runs, drove in 12 and hit three home runs for the week. In a three-game sweep of Louisiana Tech, he was 10-for-14 (.714), had at least three hits in each game and five RBI in two of the contests. During one stretch of the series he reached base nine consecutive times.
It is Butlers fourth career WAC Player of the Week award and fifth for a Wolf Pack player this year.
Humber, a junior from Carthage, Texas (Carthage HS), tossed his second complete game win of the season in a 3-1 victory over Miami (Ohio) on Friday. Humber scattered eight hits, walked one and struck out 12 in the game. He is now 7-1 with a 1.61 ERA on the year.
It is Humbers third career WAC Pitcher of the Week award and fifth for a Rice player this season.
Other player of the week nominations included: sophomore second baseman Isaac Omura, Hawaii; and freshman infielder Josh Rodriguez, Rice.
Additional pitcher of the week nominations included: junior Ricky Bauer, Hawaii; and sophomore Travis Sutton, Nevada.
