DENVER SMUs Jerad Harklau has been selected as the Western Athletic Conference Mens Golfer of the Week.
Harklau, a sophomore from Rockwall, Texas, led the Ponies to their third tournament win of the season, as the Mustangs took home the top prize at the 53rd annual Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas. Harklau finished tied for second, SMU's highest finisher, with a final eight under-par score of 208. He bettered the nations second-ranked player by two strokes, but fell one stroke shy of the nations 11th-ranked player to finish second. Harklau opened play in Laredo with a sizzling 65 during the morning round on the par 72, 7,125 yard course. Harklau followed with an afternoon 18 of 69. A final round 74 did little to hamper Harklau or the Mustangs, he finished tied for second, leading the Ponies to a seven stroke victory, finishing as a team at 12 under (852). Harklau's 208 was a career best for the sophomore. The win was SMU's second victory in its last three starts and the seventh tournament win since the beginning of the 2002-03 season.
