This week's stops, the Susie Maxwell and Peg Bernard Classics will conclude the WAC women's golf regular season. Tulsa has three student-athletes ranked in
Golfstat's top 60. The WAC's top two freshmen, Laura Cross of SMU and Sara Odelius of Hawaii are ranked 82nd and 95th, respectivley. Odelius moved up in the ranking after a seventh-place finish at the BYU Dixie Classic, shooting the tournament's best round in the final round, posting a -2, 70.

GOLFER OF THE WEEK UTEPs Annie Mallory has been selected as the Western Athletic Conference Women's Golfers of the Week.
Mallory, a senior from Fredericton, New Brunswick, became the first Miner to win a tournament since October, 1999 by taking first place at the Lindsey Lady Collegiate Classic March 29-30 in Bryant, Ark. Mallory shot a 228 (75-75-78), helping UTEP win the tournament title. The Miners finished with a team score of 958 (315-311-332) to edge out second-place Arkansas-Little Rock (321-321-328-970). It was UTEPs first tournament title in over two years.

CROSS, SIMMONS BOTH RECORD ACES AT LONGHORN INVITE SMU freshman Laura Cross and senior Erin Simmons both recorded aces March 21 on day one of the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational .The duo's aces helped lead the Mustangs to a fifth place tie after the first 18 holes of play at The Hills Country Club in Austin, Texas. The field in Austin included eight of the country's top 25 teams. "I saw them both live," SMU head coach Todd Selders said, referring to the double aces by his team Sunday. "That course is playing really, really tough. "
HAWAII, SMU OWN TOP FIVE FRESHMEN CLASSES Hawaii and SMU are ranked fourth and fifth by Golfstat in the Freshman Class Impact Ratings, respectivley. Hawaii freshmen have a 77.73 scoring average and a 451.921 relative strength. SMU owns a 78.27 average and a 446.485 relative strength. The Mustangs are led by freshmen Laura Cross and Kristin Rothengatter. Cross, who has won twice this year, helped the Mustangs rally back from 14 shots down in the Miccosukee Championship, giving her and SMU the title. Cross most recently placed third at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invite, where there were eight on the nations top 25 teams in attendance. Cross recored an ace on her way to third. Rothengatters best finish in her rookie year is second at the St. Croix Classic, posting a three-day total of 227 (+11). Hawaiis top freshman is Sara Odelius. Odelius has led the Wahine in six of eight events this year. She had an seventh-place finish at the BYU Dixie Classic, shooting a 224 (+8), firing a 70 in the final round; the tournaments best. Fellow rookie Dale Gammie tied for second at the Donnis Thompson Invitational.
ADLETA NAMED AS INTERIM HEAD COACH Hawaii Athletics Director Herman Frazier appointed Ashley Adleta (pronounced ad-LEE-tah) as the interim women's golf coach effective January through June 2004. Adleta began her collegiate career at Pepperdine where she played two seasons and won the Wyoming Invitational. She completed her final two collegiate seasons at Arizona State under its legendary coach Linda Vollstedt, who recently retired in 2001. Adleta was a part of five national championship teams - two as a player at ASU and the other three as an assistant coach. Adleta graduated from ASU in spring 1994 with a B.A. degree in political science and played that following fall as an amateur on the Players' West Min-Tour, which is now called the Futures Tour. The former Sun Devil became an assistant women's coach at ASU from 1995-2001 before taking a job as an administrative assistant with her father's company, Adleta Corporation.
WAC TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD IN EL PASO The 2004 WAC Tournament will be held Apr. 19-21 in El Paso, Texas, at the Underwood Golf Course. Tulsa is looking for a WAC record sixth-straight titles, after picking up number five in 2003 in Honolulu. Tulsas Julie Tvede is back looking to defend her title. This years field is as wide open as it has ever been. Although Tulsa has three women ranked in the top 51 (Golf Stat), SMUs Laura Cross has claimed two titles this spring, while San Jose States Ashley Gomes grabbed her career first.
