DENVER Fresno State outfielder Richie Robnett and Nevada right-handed pitcher Ryan Rodriguez have been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for May 3-9.
Robnett, a sophomore from Visalia, Calif. (Redwood HS), hit .889 (8-9) in three games against San Jose State. Robnett had seven RBIs, scored six runs, stole two bases, hit four home runs and had at least two hits in each game as the Bulldogs took two of three from the Spartans. He had a home run in each game and hit two in the opener on Friday. Robnett also improved his WAC-best hitting streak to 24 games.
It is Robnetts first career WAC Player of the Week award and second for a Bulldog player this year.
Rodriguez, a freshman from Reno, Nev. (McQueen HS), threw a complete-game shutout in Nevadas 4-0 win over Louisiana Tech on Sunday. Rodriguez allowed just four hits, one walk and struck out 10 batters. He retired the final 12 hitters of the game and 16 of the final 17.
It is Rodriguezs second career WAC Pitcher of the Week award and second for a Wolf Pack pitcher this year.
Other player of the week nominations included: senior first baseman Andrew Sansaver, Hawaii; senior first baseman Erick Streelman, Nevada; and junior catcher/first baseman Adam Rodgers, Rice.
Additional pitcher of the week nominations included: sophomore Guy McDowell, Hawaii; and junior Josh Baker, Rice.
