Rice senior Chris Kolkhorst, Rice junior Wade Townsend and Fresno State senior Chris Patrick were named to Academic All-District teams as selected by the College Sports Information Directors Association of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.

Kolkhorst and Townsend were named to the District VI team while Patrick was a District VIII honoree. There are eight districts throughout the country. The three players are now eligible for the Academic All-America teams to be announced later this year.

Kolkhorst is an economics/managerial studies major who maintained a 3.36 grade point average this season. The Houston native owns a .359 batting average and has started every game as the Owls' center fielder and leadoff hitter. He was named a Western Athletic Conference scholar-athlete in 2002 and 2003.

It's the second time in as many years for Townsend to earn selection to the district's all-academic team. The right-handed pitcher from Dripping Springs is 9-0 with two saves and a 1.65 ERA in 14 appearances overall. He is a history/economics/managerial studies major who logged a 3.59 grade point average. Townsend went on to earn second team academic all-America honors as a sophomore in 2003.

Patrick boasts a 3.30 grade-point average as a kinesiology major. He has started 47 of the team's 48 games and is currently hitting .333 on the season, the third-best mark on the club. In addition, he has totaled 32 RBI, 25 runs scored, 12 doubles and is fielding at a .949 clip. Patrick is second on the squad with 19 multi-hit games. He is a 2003 first-team All-WAC and Academic All-WAC selection. In 2002, he was awarded second-team All-WAC and Academic All-WAC honors.
