Fresno State's Jamie Southern, Mitzi Ing and Nevada's Stacy Mueller were named to the All-District VIII Univeristy Division Softball Team. District VIII includes Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawai`i, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and British Columbia.
Fresno State softball's senior center fielder Mitzi Ing (Aiea, Hawaii) and junior All-America pitcher Jamie Southern (Clovis, Calif.) were selected to the 11-team 2004 Academic All-District VIII University Division Softball Team, as voted upon members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Named to her second straight Academic All-District VIII Team, Ing has not only put together a career year at the plate but is wrapping up a stellar academic career as well.
Garnering her first Academic all-district honors, Southern owns a 3.46 cumulative GPA in liberal studies. Continuing to lead the nation in ERA while being ranked in the top seven in victories all season, she is the 23rd NCAA Division I pitcher to tally 1,000 career strikeouts while recording 19 shutout victories in her 28 wins.
Senior outfielder Stacy Mueller (Mesa, Ariz.) has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII softball squad, it was announced today.
Mueller, one of the batting leaders in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) the past two years, will now be placed on the national ballot, which will be voted on and announced later this month.
