DENVER Fresno State outfielder Nick Moresi and Louisiana Tech right-handed pitcher Matt Lacy have been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for May 10-16.
Moresi, a freshman from Clayton, Calif. (De La Salle HS), hit .667 (4-6) in two games at Hawaii. Moresi was 2-for-3 with three RBI in both games. He scored twice and hit a three-run homer in Fresno States 8-4 win on Friday. The victory gave the Bulldogs the first series win by a WAC team in Honolulu this season.
It is Moresis first career WAC Player of the Week award and third for a Bulldog player this year.
Lacy, a sophomore from Longview, Texas (Pine Tree HS), threw his first complete game in a 9-1 victory over San Jose State on Saturday. Lacy allowed five hits, one unearned run, no walks and struck out four in picking up his first win as a starter in seven chances.
It is Lacys first career WAC Pitcher of the Week award and second for a Bulldog pitcher this year.
Other player of the week nominations included: sophomore second baseman Isaac Omura, Hawaii; senior first baseman Kyle Spangler, Louisiana Tech; and sophomore outfielder Lance Pendleton, Rice.
Additional pitcher of the week nominations included: sophomore Matt Garza, Fresno State; sophomore Guy McDowell, Hawaii; and junior Philip Humber, Rice.
