DENVER Boise States Forest Braden and UTEPs Corine van Beek have been named the Western Athletic Conference mens and womens Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively.
Braden, a sophomore from Bonners Ferry, Idaho, placed fourth in the 5,000 meters at the Stanford Invitational with a Boise State record time of 13:45.41. Braden broke an eight-year record in the event which was held by Cormac Smith (13:51.60, 1996). Bradens time was also an NCAA regional qualifying mark.
van Beek, a senior from Ermelo, Netherlands, ran the Midwest Regions faster time of the year in the 1,5000 meters at the Cardinal Invitational on April 30. She crossed in 11th with a time of 4:18.50, the fastest time in the WAC this season.
