The Western Athletic Conference placed three teams and one individual in this years NCAA Womens Golf Regionals. The Regionals continue today at each of their respecive sites. San Jose State earned a bid to the West Regional, while Tulsa and SMU will both compete in the Central. Hawaii freshman and first team all-WAC selection, Sara Odelius is the lone individual competitor, as she was one of three that earned a spot in the West. The Central Regional will be played May 6-8 at the University Golf Course in Normal, Ill., hosted by Illinois State. The West Regional will be played May 6-8 at the Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif., hosted by Stanford.

    Tulsa earned the WACs automatic bid, winning the 2004 WAC Tournament. The Golden Hurricane made a push on the final day to take home their sixth-straight conference title. The Hurricane are led by first-team all-WAC members, seniors Julie Tvede and Suzie Fisher. Tvede fell three shots short of defending her 2003 title. SMU won three events this spring and finished the season strong, taking third at the conference tournament. The Mustangs are led by WAC Freshman of the Year and first team all-WAC member, Laura Cross. Cross finished third at the WAC Tournament, firing a 220, one shot back of second.

    San Jose State, who had the lead at the WAC Championship through two days, earned the only at-large bid in the West Region for WAC teams. The Spartans are led by WAC Player of the Year and 2004 champion, senior Ashley Gomes. Also in the west, Hawaiis Sara Odelius picked up one of three individual at-large bids. Odelius finished sixth at the WAC Tournament with a 224 (+8).

    A total of 324 participants have been selected for the regional competition. Of these players, 126 will advance to the championships finals May 18-21. Eight teams and two individuals will advance from each region. The championship finals will be held at Grand National Lake Course in Opelika, Ala., hosted by Auburn University.
