DENVER Rice forward Clory Martin and goalkeeper Lauren Shockley have been named the Western Athletic Conference womens soccer offensive and defensive Players of the Week, respectively.
Martin, a freshman from Austin, Texas, led Rice in points (7) and shots (10) for the week. She co-led the squad in goals (3) and shots on goal (5). Martin posted three goals and assisted on another during the week for the Owls. After scoring a pair of goals in a convincing win over cross-town rival Texas Southern, she scored the game-winner in overtime against Army.
Shockley, a senior from Indianpolis, Ind., earned her second Player of the Week honor in as many weeks as she went 2-0-1 last week. She allowed only two goals in 223:24 minutes of action. Shockley made 13 saves on 15 shots-on-goal for a .867 percentage. She posted seven saves against Mountain West power, UNLV, helping the Owls to a 1-1 tie.
Other offensive nominees included: Jill Heinemann, SMU and Cara Nordin, UTEP.
