DENVER Fresno State forward Cortney Sobrero and Nevada goalkeeper Megan Tarpenning have been named the Western Athletic Conference womens soccer offensive and defensive Players of the Week, respectively.

Sobrero, a sophomore from Las Vegas, Nev., recorded Fresno State's first hat trick in four years to help lead the Bulldogs to a 4-2 victory over New Mexico on Sept. 19. She tallied three shots on goal in the win, all for scores and is Fresno States leading goal-scorer with seven goals in five games played this year. Sobrero joins former Bulldog standouts Jill Pearson and Cheryl Gano as the only players to score three goals in a single game.

Tarpenning, a junior from Roseville, Calif., recorded the first shutout for the Wolf Pack since Sept. 9, 2002, posting a, 1-0, win over Utah State. Tarpenning had five saves in the match and has played all but one half this season. The win over the Aggies is the first for Nevada this season.
