Collins, along with Shannon Packard, Cassie Lyons and Kelly Busche, started things off with a pool record in the 200-medley relay in the very first event. Their winning time of 2:00.68 was nearly two seconds better than the old record of 2:02.19 set by Missouri in 2002.Collins first individual record came in the 50 freestyle where she swam a winning time of 27.07 (24.25 yards), beating a 12-year record set by Maria Anderson of Arizona State in 1993 with a time of 27:08. In the very next event, Collins set an individual record of 58.71 (52.60 yards) in the 100 freestyle, besting Heidi Hausnecht of Utah who swam a time of 59.11 in 1999.Others Nominated: QiongJie Huang, Hawaii and Li Bei, Nevada.CollegeSwimming.com PollWAC ADDS TWO AFFILIATE MEMBERSThe Western Athletic Conference announced that invitations for affiliate membership have been issued to and accepted by the University of San Diego and Northern Arizona to join the conference effective the 2004-05 season. Northern Arizona is a member of the Big Sky Conference, but its swimming and diving team competes in the National Independent Conference (NIC). It has done so since the 1998-99 season. The Lumberjacks have finished outside the top three at the NIC Championships only once, finishing second four times. San Diego is a member of the West Coast Conference, but its swimming and diving team competes in the Pacific Collegiate Swimming Conference (PCSC).TEAMS IN THE CSCAA TOP 25SMU and Hawaii continue to be ranked the CSCAA Poll. SMU is sixth, while the Wahine fall to 20th. Both teams finished the 2003-04 season in the top 25 and finished 1-2, respectivley, at the WAC Championship.PALO ALTO TO HOST 2005 WAC CHAMPIONSHIPThe 2004-05 WAC Championship will be held in San Antonio at the Palo Alto College Natatorium, February 23-26, 2005. The WAC returns to the Alamo City for its fifth-consecutive year. SMU has won the last seven championships, and will be competing in its last year as a WAC member.NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP INFORMATIONThe 2005 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships will be held, March 13-17 at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center in West Lafayette, Ind. Purdue will serve as the host institution. NCAA Diving Zones will be held March 10-13 at each regions selected site.WAC TO ADD NEW MEMBER IN 2005New Mexico State and Idaho will join the Western Athletic Conference, beginning July 1, 2005. Both members and their swiming and diving programs will help continue the success the has had. The Aggies are led by head coach John Fedena, while the Vandals head coach is Tom Jager.
