WORKING MEDIA CREDENTIALSCredential approval will be sent out prior to March 1. Credentials will not be mailed and can only be picked up the week of the tournament during the following times at the Lawlor Events Center.

Tuesday, March 810:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m.
Wednesday, March 910:30 a.m.-9:00 p.m.
Thursday, March 1010:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m.
Friday, March 1110:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m.
Saturday, March 1211:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 5:00-6:30 p.m.
Credentials can be picked up at the tunnel entrance of the Lawlor Events Center. You must show a photo ID and sign to receive your credential. You may only pick up your credential. Any other credentials from the same media outlets, must be signed for by each individual.
SECURITYAll individuals with credentials will be required to present government-issued photo identification, along with their credential, each time they enter the arena. All media bags will be inspected prior to entry into the arena.
PARKINGMedia parking is limited. Media parking passes will be issued for the South Lot. Television stations which have microwave or uplink trucks will be parked as near the tunnel entrance as possible but space is limited.
CREDENTIALS/MEDIA ACCESSMedia who are credentialed for the 2005 WAC Basketball Tournament will receive a badge designating their affiliation. No one is admitted without a WAC-issued credential. Outlets that request several credentials may receive a limited number of press row seats depending on demand. Those who do not have an assigned seat for a particular game due to additional staff writers, will be directed to an overflow seating area or can cover the game from the Media Work Room.
Types of Credentials Media: Access to all media seating, backstage media areas, television compound and general public areas.
Photo/TV: In-and-out access to courtside media seating, backstage media areas, select photography positions, television compound and general public areas (no access to seating in the media section).
Credentials are non-transferable. Anyone caught without the proper credential will be asked to leave the Lawlor Events Center and future privileges will be revoked. Lost credentials cannot be replaced.
MEDIA SEATINGSeating will be determined by the Western Athletic Conference. Policies for the 2005 WAC Basketball Tournament may differ from those used by Nevada during the regular season.
MEDIA HEADQUARTERS HOTELThe Silver Legacy Hotel is the media headquarters (Media rate: $69 plus tax Sunday thru Thursday and $109 plus tax Fridaya and Saturday). Media desiring a room at the headquarters must complete a hotel request form and send it to the WAC Office. You will receive confirmation via e-mail. If demand exceeds supply at the hotel, we will attempt to place you at a comparable hotel. If you must cancel your reservations, contact Dave Chaffin at the WAC office within 72 hours of your scheduled arrival or you will be charged a cancellation fee equal to one night stay.
CREDENTIAL GUIDELINESCredentials will be issued according to the following guidelines.
Working Media1. Media agencies in geographic areas of the WACs member institutions; agencies must have staffed games on a regular basis during the season as determined by the schools SIDs.
2. Radio stations and networks which are official stations of WAC member institutions during the season
3. ESPN/SportsWest
4. National television networks, national radio networks, wire services and national magazines.
5. Reno area daily newspapers.
6. Campus-related media of WAC member institutions, including student radio stations. (see radio section).
7. Television and radio stations that employ full-time sports directors, conduct a daily sports program, and regularly cover college basketball.
Working Photographers1. National Wire Services
2. Newspapers with circulation in the immediate geographic area of WAC participating institutions. If your local institution is not participating in a particular game you wish to cover, you may not shoot that particular game if space is limited. Note: If you are considered a primary media outlet for a WAC institution by the institutions SID, you will be granted the opportunity to shoot that institutions games.
3. Each participating institution can credential up to two (2) photographers to represent all campus-related publications and departments, including the athletics department.
4. Reno area daily newspapers.
5. National publications planning to publish dated stories on the 2005 WAC Basketball Tournament.
The WAC reserves the right to authorize and issue all credentials. It also has the right to reject credential requests. Space limitations may preclude credential approval.
PHOTOGRAPHERSStrobes may not be used during WAC tournament games at the Lawlor Events Center without the permission of the Media Coordinator. Entities desiring the use of strobes must submit a request no later than Friday, Feb. 25. Entities receiving permission to use strobes must arrange for set-up time with the Media Coordinator to test the strobes. There will be limited availability to set up strobes (a max. of three sets). Photo positions are assigned by the WAC. Photographers will be required to work from the photographers box at each end of the court. At no time may photographers work from directly behind the official table, team benches or press row media seating areas. Hand-held strobes and flashes are not permitted in the Lawlor Events Center arena/court area, nor are tripods or attachments to the basketball standards. A photo transmission area will be available during the tournament.
TV HIGHLIGHT POLICYLocal television affiliates may shoot game highlights from the designated areas on the court level. No cameras, with the exception of those for the live telecast of tournament games, may shoot from the free throw line extended nor may they shoot from either of the sidelines. There will be no exceptions. Because of the shortage of space along the baselines, location priority will be given to those outlets which represent the participating teams in a particular game. Tripods are not allowed at courtside. Lighting will be provided in the Media Interview Room for postgame news conferences. Battery equipment must be used for taping. A multbox and feed will be provided for credentialed TV stations desiring game action footage from the television broadcasts. Please travel with an adapter.
TELEVISION LIVE SHOTSLive stand-ups are allowed inside the seating area of the Lawlor Events Center only up until 15 minutes prior to the start of each session. Thereafter, they must be done from the concourse, the media work room or from outside the arena. They are not allowed inside the seating area under any circumstance when games are in progress. Please do not abuse this policy or you run the risk of having your credentials pulled. If you are unclear as to what location can be used, please contact Jeff Hurd or Dave Chaffin.
TELEVISION NETWORKSESPN holds broadcasting rights to the mens championship game. SportsWest and the WAC holds rights to all other games.
RADIO BROADCASTSThere will be four radio positions in the Lawlor Events Center which will include two ISDN lines, two analog lines and one dry pair to the Media Interview Room to accommodate a postgame coaches show. If you desire lines to the Media Interview Room to use outside of your game broadcast you must contact the Lawlor Events Center for installation. The WAC will also grant broadcasting rights to a national radio network for all rounds of the tournament. This network will be allowed to broadcast to its affiliates with the exception of the DMA of the originating station of a participating team.
INTERNETOnline services will only be allowed "real time" transmission of any games from the 2005 WAC Basketball Tournament with prior permission from the WAC. Other than the official websites of the Conference and ESPN.com, representatives staffing websites shall be accredited based on the following guidelines:
One credential may be assigned to a website that is affiliated with a national media outlet of another form (i.e., network, newspaper, etc.) or is the official website of a WAC institution.
All Internet companies receiving credentials shall not post any game footage, statistics or game information on any website (other than that of AP, institutional or WAC). Furthermore, not more than six (6) digital photos per hour of game action will be permitted. These photos will not be rapidly refreshed, sequential or thematic in nature or used in any manner to simulate television or streaming of video. Each of the credentialed websites will be allowed to post 60 seconds of video highlights from each games telecast, but such highlights shall not include ESPN/SportsWest audio or in-game features. The highlight package must not incorporate more than two (2) consecutive plays at any point from the game. A graphic must appear which credits the applicable distribution arm of a particular telecast (courtesy of ESPN or courtesy of SportsWest). Such highlights may appear on a credentialed website no earlier than 30 minutes following the conclusion of the game. The shelf life of the highlights shall not exceed 24 hours.
NON-BROADCASTING RADIOMedia representing non-broadcasting radio stations and individuals representing phone reporting services are prohibited from filing live reports via telephones from the arena area. These individuals may file reports from the Media Work Room.
PRACTICESExcept for the first scheduled practice time, all team practices are closed during the 2005 WAC Basketball Tournament. Teams may choose not to utilize their practice times or may choose to use a portion of the time allotted. Check with the respective Media Relations Director for specific information. Each media member wishing to speak with coaches and student-athletes should contact the Media Relations Director at the conclusion of practice. No interviews will take place on the court but will be conducted outside the gym area so that the next practice can start on time.
MEDIA WORK ROOMA Media Work Room is located on floor level in of the Lawlor Events Center. Electrical power and telephones are provided. All phone lines are restricted to collect or credit card use for long distance calls. The phones are also restricted to outgoing calls only. Media wishing to receive a message while covering the tournament should call the WAC Arena Headquarters. A message can be delivered to you in the Media Work Room or Press Row. All media will have equal access to the phone lines in the Media Work Room.
PRESS ROWMedia seating will be on a daily basis. Be sure to check the seating charts posted in the Media Work Room and Press Row to locate your seat location for each session. Press Row seating will be monitored and enforced.
FAXBox score faxing will be available after each game. However, box scores will be posted immediately following each game to the WAC website at www.wacsports.com. For outlets that need faxing, a fax sign up sheet will be available in the Media Work Room prior to each session.
TRANSPORTATIONThere will be no media shuttle to/from the Lawlor Events Center and the Silver Legacy hotel.
MEDIA HOSPITALITYMedia will be served dinner daily from 4:00-6:00 near the media work room. You must show your credential to enter the room. Snacks will be provided every game day throughout the day in the media hospitality room.
POST-GAME NEWS CONFERENCESPost-game news conferences will take place in the Media Interview Room at the Lawlor Events Center. Following a 10-minute cooling off period, the head coach and two players from the winning team will appear, followed by the head coach and two players from the losing team. Following the womens and mens championship games, the championship trophy and all-tournament team will be presented on the floor. For those two games only, the losing coach and players will proceed to the Media Interview Room first. Coaches must proceed directly to the dressing room after the game unless asked to remain for a short interview (not to exceed four minutes) by ESPN or SportsWest. No interviews may take place during the cooling-off period. Regardless of any personal regular-season radio or television contract(s), the coach is first obligated to the entire media staffing the Championships.
POST-GAME INTERVIEWSEach teams media relations staff will assist media in coordinating interview requests involving players and coaches not attending the post-game news conference. Contact a member of the media relations staff of the respective institution to arrange post-game interviews.
FLAGSHIP RADIOFor member institutions flagship radio stations that require comments from the head coach to be used as part of their pre-game show, they may meet the coach during pre-game in the teams lockerroom to record remarks provided they are escorted by a member of the teams media relations staff.
POOL REPORTERA pool reporter will be designated for the tournament by the WAC Communications staff to obtain a rules interpretation if needed regarding a game situation from the game officials. The pool reporter will be accompanied to the Officials dressing room by a representative of the WAC. At that time, an interpretation pertaining exclusively to the specific situation will be given.
PROFESSIONAL SCOUTSAny professional team requesting admission to the WAC tournament for the purpose of scouting players must purchase tickets. No complimentary tickets or passes shall be given to scouts. Scouts shall purchase all-session tickets from the WAC and will be issued a game ticket and credential with access to an assigned seat on Press Row. Rosters and statistics will be delivered to the Scout Area on Press Row. Scouts shall pick up tickets and credentials at the credential pickup the week of competition.

SEEDING ANNOUNCEMENTSThe tournament brackets will be posted on the WACs website (www.wacsports.com) by 1:00 a.m. (Mountain Time) on Sunday, March 6.
ALL-CONFERENCE TEAMThe mens and womens All-Conference teams will be announced Sunday, March 6 as voted by the leagues coaches. The mens and womens awards will consist of first and second all-WAC teams, all-defensive teams, all-newcomer teams, Coach of the Year, Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year.
ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAMAn All-Tournament Team and Most Outstanding Player will be awarded following the championship games on Saturday, March 12. The WAC will appoint a panel of media to select the honorees.
