Preseason Softball Rankings

DENVER The Fresno State softball team was ranked in both preseason softball polls. The Bulldogs were ranked No. 19 in the USA Today/NFCA Preseason Poll. Fresno State was also ranked No. 17 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Preseason Poll. Tulsa earned votes in both polls.
Coming off a 48-20 season, the Bulldogs have six of the top 12 teams on their schedule that includes home stints against No. 3 UCLA (March 6) and No. 5 Stanford (March 28). The Bulldogs currently have 13 teams scheduled that were ranked or received votes in today's poll, which was released by USA Softball. Fresno State was picked to finish first in the WAC. Junior Christina Clark was voted WAC Preseason Player of the Year, while senior Jamie Southern was picked WAC Preseason Pitcher of the Year.
The WAC softball season begins on Feb. 1 when San Jose State travels to UC Davis. By Feb. 5 six of the seven WAC teams will be in action. Fresno State begins the defense of its title on Feb. 11.
