DENVER Tulsa junior Timberly Greenly has been named the Western Athletic Conference Womens Tennis Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 31. This is her first honor of the spring.
Greenly, a junior from Yukon, Okla. Timberly is 3-0 in the spring season. Last week, she defeated SMUs Lynsie Jones in a close match, winning 6-4, 7-6 (6) to give Tulsa the winning point in the dual match. No. 50 Tulsa defeated No. 44 SMU, 4-2. In doubles, Greenly also contributed to winning the doubles point. She and partner Kindsay Grimes defeated SMUs Allison Lueszler and Maria Braniecka, 8-6.
OTHERS NOMINATED Rices Blair DiSesa defeated No. 40 Ramona But of Maryland in straight sets 6-4, 6-0 to help the Owls defeat the No. 52 Terrapins 5-2 and move to 3-0 on the season. The win was her 12th of the season and her third over a ranked opponent. She is now a perfect 3-0 in dual match play at the number one spot ... SMUs Svetlana Kouzmenko grabbed two more singles wins at the No. 2 position over the weekend in Tulsa, Okla. On Jan. 29, she bested Jana Kubicikova of Oklahoma State 6-2, 6-2. On Jan. 30, she also cruised to a straight-set win over Santie Delport of Tulsa 6-2, 6-3. The wins upped her singles record to 3-0 in the No. 2 spot.
