DENVER ?“ The Western Athletic Conference Board of Directors today approved Las Cruces as the site of the 2007 and 2008 WAC Men and Women's Basketball Tournament. It was announced by Board Chairman and Fresno State President Dr. John Welty.

The 2007 and 2008 tournaments were awarded as a result of a joint bid by New Mexico State University and the Las Cruces Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The tournaments will be played in New Mexico State's 13,071-seat Pan American Center. The arena is currently undergoing $23 million in renovations that will be completed next November.

"New Mexico State's presentation was very impressive," said WAC Commissioner Karl Benson. "The university and Las Cruces are very excited about hosting the WAC's premier championship beginning in 2007. The renovations to the arena, along with the recreation opportunities in the area for the fans, will make these tournaments a first-class event."

New Mexico State is in its first season with the Western Athletic Conference. The 2007 WAC Basketball Tournaments will be the first WAC championship hosted by the Aggies.
