HAWAI'I RANKED 19TH NATIONALLY ?“ Hawai'i entered the CollegeSwimming.com top 25 Nov. 7, coming in 19th. The Wahine finished 16th at the 2004-05 NCAA Championships. They are led once again by divers Rui Wang and QiongJie Huang. Melanie Schlanger and Bache Atkins lead a strong swimming corps.
XBOX LIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK ?“ San Diego?™s Ashley Swart has been named the Xbox Live Western Athletic Conference women?™s Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week.
Swart, a senior from Honolulu, Hawaii, grabbed five first-place finishes at the Big West Shootout in Irvine, Calif. Swart won the 200 freestyle, 200 breaststroke and 400 individual medley on the first day. She record a time of 1:51.70 in the 200 free, 2:16.77 in the breast and 4:20.66 in the 400 IM. She also grabbed gold in the 200 IM with a time of 1:51.65 and 200 breaststroke in 2:17.44, both on day two.
Other nominees included: Melanie Schlanger, Hawai'i and Alexis Buckley, Northern Arizona.

SCHLANGER SETS TWO HAWAI'I RECORDS ?“ Hawai'i swimmer Melanie Schlanger smashed two Rainbow Wahine records in the 50 Free and 100 Free on the final day of the Big West Shootout at UC Irvine?™s Anteater Aquatics Complex. The sophomore from Buderim, Queensland, Australia, broke the 50 Free mark with a time of :22.36 seconds, snapping Dena Quick?™s standard set at the WAC Championship last February. The freestylist then turned around and eclipsed her own mark in the 100 Free (:48.45). Schlanger?™s old mark in the 100 Free (:49.09) was also set at last year?™s WAC Championship.
WAC ENTERS NEW ERA ?“ The WAC is a nine-team league with the additions of Idaho, New Mexico State and Utah State following the departures of Rice, SMU, UTEP and Tulsa. It is the third time in conference history that the WAC will be comprised of nine teams (1980-91 and 2000). Only Idaho and New Mexico State sponsor swimming and diving. Northern Arizona and San Diego continue as affiliate members.
WAC CHAMPIONSHIP RETURNS TO PALO ALTO ?“ The 2006 edition of the WAC Championship returns to Palo Alto Natatorium in San Antonio. This year will mark a new champion for the first time nine years, with the departure of SMU. The Championship will be held Feb. 22-25, 2006.
NCAA DIVING ZONES ?“ There are five NCAA Diving zones, being held March 9-11 or March 10-12. The following are the five respective sites.
