DENVER ?“ New Mexico State forward Tyrone Nelson has been named the Xbox Live Western Athletic Conference men?™s basketball player of the week for December 19-25.
Nelson, a sophomore from Hampstead, Texas (Prairie View A&M), scored a career-high 31 points and tied a career-high with 16 rebounds in New Mexico State?™s 74-72 win against Texas-San Antonio last Tuesday. It was his fourth double-double of the season. Nelson was 10-of-18 from the field and 11-of-13 from the free throw line to go along with two assists, two blocks and two steals in 36 minutes of playing time. It is Nelson?™s first career WAC Player of the Week award and first for an Aggie this season.
The other nominations were junior guard Coby Karl, Boise State; junior forward Quinton Hosley, Fresno State; junior forward Ahmet Gueye, Hawai'i; junior guard Keoni Watson, Idaho; and senior forward Nate Harris, Utah State.
