DENVER ?“ Hawai'i?™s Melanie Schlanger has been named the Xbox Live Western Athletic Conference women?™s Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week.
Schlanger, a sophomore, from Buderim, Queensland, Australia took first place in two events and second in another at the Texas Invitational. She won the 100 Free (47.94) and tied for first in the 50 Free (22.37), while placing second in the 200 Free (1:45.76). All three times are NCAA automatic qualifying marks.
She set new Hawai'i records in both the 100 Free and 200 Free, and just barely missed her own mark in the 50 Free by 1/100th of a second.
Other nominees included: Kim Kabesh, Nevada; Corie Collins, Northern Arizona and Brie Marhenke, San Jose State.
