DENVER UTEPs Weronika Bloczynska has been named the Western Athletic Conference Womens Tennis Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 14. This is her first honor of the spring.
Bloczynska, a freshman from Elbag, Poland, improved to 4-2 on the season after joining the team in January with three wins at the No. 3 singles spot last weekend. She has won four consecutive matches, earning two of the three wins over WAC opponents, Alissa Ayling of Boise State and Kristen Davenport of Nevada. She is also 2-0 in three-set matches. She also went 2-1 in doubles with Kendall Exelby at No. 1.
OTHERS NOMINATED Boise States Nadja Woschek defeated Kendall Exelby of UTEP 6-0 6-2 at number one singles and Whitney Ebar (Utah) 7-6 6-2 at number two singles ... Fresno States Lucia Sainz had the best showing as the Bulldogs fell to UCLA Louisiana Techs Saharai Uriarte split matches on the week, falling to McNeese Sate in No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles and winning against Nicholls State in No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles Rices Tracie Chong posted two wins at the number three ladder position to help Rice remain undefeated with a 6-0 record. She defeated Texas Techs Janet Durham 6-0, 6-1 and Texas States Margaret Potyrala 6-2, 6-1 to move to 4-1 on the dual match season and has won six of last seven singles matches ... Tulsas Daniela Muscolino won both her singles matches this weekend and a doubles match. In her singles matches she downed two ranked opponents. She defeated No. 76 Lynzee Kever (Colorado), 7-5, 6-2 and defeated No. 98 Yanick Dullens (Denver), 6-4, 6-3.
