Tulsa's Muscolino Named WAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week

DENVER Tulsas Daniela Muscolino has been named the Western Athletic Conference Womens Tennis Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 21. This is her first honor of the spring.

Muscolino, a junior from Buenos Aires, Argentina, won all three of her matches last weekend in singles competition, including a 6-3, 6-4, victory over No. 112 Maria Ivanov of Tulane. Muscolino also defeated Irina Lykina of Oklahoma, 6-2, 6-0 and Amanda Mang (LSU), 6-4, 6-7, 13-10, as well. In doubles, she went 2-1 over the last week, including defeating No. 49 Ivanov/Ivanov (Tulane), 8-3. Muscolino helped the Golden Hurricane upset No. 24 Oklahoma, 5-2. Tulsa swept the doubles matches and won four singles matches. Tulsa also lost a close dual match against No. 15 Tulane, 4-3.

OTHERS NOMINATED Rices Tracie Chong was the only Owl to post three wins, despite the team losing all three matches last week. She defeated Dasha Potapova of 23rd-ranked Georgia Tech 6-4, 6-0 for one of Rices two points against the Yellow Jackets. She scored Rices only point against number-six Vanderbilt, winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 over Taka Bertrand UTEPs Ta Spirta went 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles with partner Danielle King. In doubles, the duo clinched the doubles point against Wyoming and then Spirta went on to win the match-clinching fourth point in singles with a 1-6, 6-2, 6-0, come-from-behind win.
