Hawaiis Ryan Sceats has been named the Western Athletic Conference Mens Tennis Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 22. This is Sceats first honor of the spring.
Sceats, a junior from Western Australia, Australia, won both of his matches last week in a pair of dual matches in Las Vegas, Nev. Sceats defeated Alexei Ivanov of No. 41 Oklahoma, 7-5, 7-6, for the lone singles victory. The junior also defeated Romain Massaro of No. 72 UNLV, 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8). Sceats holds an 8-5 overall singles record, including a team-leading 5-1 dual match record at No. 3. He has won his last four singles matches.
OTHERS NOMINATED Fresno States Jakub Cech cruised to another straight-set victory to lead Fresno State to a 6-0 victory over Sacramento State. Cech defeated Matt Jones 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 singles to improve to 7-0 in dual matches, including 2-0 at the top singles spot ... Rices Ralph Knupfer was the only Owl to post a win against 42nd-ranked Florida State. He defeated Jonathas Sucupira in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1 to move to a perfect 5-0 on the season ... Tulsas Ricardo Soriano is 11-1 in the spring season. Against Auburn he defeated Nick Lane, 7-6, 7-6. His win kept Tulsa close in the match. In doubles, he and brother Federico defeated Lane and Brett Hunter, 8-2.
