SJSU's Fromm and Rice's Geer Earn WAC Player and Pitcher of the Week

DENVER San Jose State first baseman Brandon Fromm and Rice right-handed pitcher Josh Geer have been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for January 31-February 6.

Fromm, a sophomore from Modesto, Calif. (Beyer HS), hit .467 (7-for-15) in three games against Cal Poly. He had at least two hits in each game to extend his hitting streak to six games dating back to last year. On Friday, he was 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored in a 15-2 win. He drove in two more runs on Sunday in a 13-6 victory. For the week, he scored five runs, drove in four, was walked twice and hit two doubles. The Spartans won two of the three games.

It is Fromms first career WAC Player of the Week award.

Geer, a junior from Forney, Texas (Navarro College), came out of the bullpen to record a win in the Owls first game of the year. He threw four scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out eight in a 5-2 win over Central Missouri State.

It is Geers first career WAC Pitcher of the Week award.

Other player of the week nominations included: freshman outfielder Adam Cobb, Louisiana Tech; junior outfielder Shawn Scobee, Nevada; and freshman catcher Danny Lehmann, Rice.

Additional pitcher of the week nominations included: senior Clayton Meyer, Louisiana Tech; and junior Tim Schoeninger, Nevada.
