DENVER Fresno States Christina Clark and San Jose States Carol Forbes have been named the Western Athletic Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. This is the fourth career honor for Clark, while Forbes has been honored five times in her San Jose State career.
Clark, a sophomore shortstop from Santa Ana, Calif., had 3 multi-hit games, including two three-hit performances. Clark hit home runs against Kent State and Santa Clara last week. She led the field in hits (9), total bases (18) and slugging percentage (.947) while tying for the lead in runs scored (6) and home runs (2). She also help Fresno State to a runner-up finish in own tournament after Bulldogs went 5-1. On year, Clark is batting .463 (19-41) with 14 runs, 8 RBI, 2 doubles, a triple, 5 home runs, 4 walks, 2-2 in stolen bases, 38 total bases and a .927 slugging percentage.
Forbes, a senior pitcher from Scottsdale, Ariz, pitched her 3rd one-hitter of the season and struck out a season high 9 batters when the Spartans played at Sacramento State. For the week Forbes has 0.33 ERA, allowed 10 hits and one earned run in 21 innings pitched and struck out 18 and walked only 1 batter. She only needs 4.1 innings of pitching to break the school career record of 759, set by Corina Lilly from 94-98.
