UTEPS Spirta and SMUS OredssonEarn Tennis Player of the Week Honors

DENVER UTEPs Tea Spirta and SMUs Peter Oredsson were named WAC Womens and Mens Player of the Week Honors, respectively for the week of March 6.

Spirta, a senior from Novi Sad, Yugoslavia, won both of her matches this week, picking up a win at No. 1 singles. She also added a win at No. 3 doubles. In singles action, the senior defeated Julie Schmandt of Northern Arizona. It was her first career win at the No. 1 spot with a win on senior day. She also teamed up with long-time partner Danielle King for an 8-3 doubles win. The 5-2 match victory gave the Miners a 5-4 match record.

Oredsson, a junior from Gavle, Sweden, won at the No. 4 spot over Daniel Lohff from No. 22 Virginia Commonwealth. He is now 5-0 at the No. 4 position and 18-5 overall this season. In doubles, he teamed with Henrik Soderberg to defeat the duo of Arumi and Lacombe to help the Miners clinch the doubles point.
