DENVER Rice first baseman Adam Rodgers and Hawaii right-handed pitcher Stephen Bryant have been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for February 28-March 6.

Rodgers, a senior from Grapevine, Texas (Grapevine HS), hit .500 (7-for-14) in three games for the Owls last week. He had eight RBI and scored four runs as Rice went 2-1 at the Dell Diamond Classic Tournament in Round Rock, Texas. Five of his seven hits went for extra bases as he hit a home run and four doubles.

Bryant, a senior from Chico, Calif. (Feather River CC), struck out a career-high 11 hitters in a 9-0 win over South Florida last Thursday. He allowed just three hits and three walks in eight innings and was named the First Hawaii Title Rainbow Baseball Tournament Most Outstanding Pitcher.

Other player of the week nominations included: junior second baseman Isaac Omura, Hawaii; and senior outfielder Jacob Butler, Nevada.

Additional pitcher of the week nominations included: sophomore Ryan Rodriguez, Nevada; and junior Ryne Tacker, Rice.
