DENVER Fresno States Christina Clark and San Jose States Carol Forbes have been named the Western Athletic Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. This is the second honor this season for Clark, the 2004 WAC Player of the Year. This is the third honor this season for Forbes.
Clark, a shortstop from Santa Ana, Calif., was the top Bulldog offensively for the second consecutive week. She helped Fresno State to a road sweep over Pacific, hitting .667 (4-for-6) with two runs, a double and a home run. She added three RBI, while collecting eight total bases for a 1.333 slugging percentage. The junior notched her fifth three-hit game of the year, as well as her 12th multi-hit game of the season. Clark went 3-for-4 with a run, a walk and three RBI while hitting her 10th home run of the season in the nightcap. The home run made it the third-straight year in which Clark has had 10 or more. The long ball also was No. 48 of her career, which moved her up to No. 21 all-time in NCAA Division I history.
Forbes, a pitcher from Scottsdale, Ariz., was 2-1, starting three games and pitching one complete game. The senior pitched 23.2 innings with a 1.18 ERA and a 2-1 record. Her only loss came in a 2-0 loss to No. 8 Stanford. She struck out 22 batters and walked just four. She allowed two runs to No. 8 Stanford but struck out five Cardinal batters. The senior struck out seven batters against UTEP on April 8 and six in game two on April 9.
