He became the 10th Miner in the last 14 years to win the event at the Texas Relays. The time is the fastest in the WAC this year by nearly 36 seconds. The time is also the fifth fastest in the nation this year. Mutai led the race by as much as 70 meters midway through the race.Louisiana Tech Brenda-Grace Hunt, a junior from Spanishtown, Jamaica, took first place at the Texas Relays in the javelin with a school-record throw of 56.91m. The mark is also the best throw in the country this season. The Broncos post two athletes in the Dandy Dozen with Mattias Jons in the hammer and Gabriel Wallin in the javelin. Jons ranks second, while Wallin is first in the country. The UTEP men place four in the top 12. Patrick Mutai is fourth in the steeplechase, while fellow Miner Mircea Bogdan is 11th. Japeth Ngojoy is 10th in the 10,000 meters. Mickael Hanany is ranked seventh in the high jump and eighth in the long jump. For the Mustang women, Gaelle Niare is second in the country in the high jump. Louisiana Tech places both relay teams in the top 12, coming in seventh in the 4x100 and 10th in the 4x400-meter relay. Techster Brenda-Grace Hunt is second in the country in the javelin. Also in the javelin is UTEPs Erma-Gene Evans who comes in fourth. 2005 WAC CHAMPIONSHIPThe 2005 Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship will be held at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium, May 11-14. Tulsa will hosts the conferences final championship of the year.
