PLAYER OF THE WEEK Fresno States Christina Clark was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week. This is the second honor this season for Clark, the 2004 WAC Player of the Year.

Clark, a shortstop from Santa Ana, Calif., was the top Bulldog offensively for the second consecutive week. She helped Fresno State to a road sweep over Pacific, hitting .667 (4-for-6) with two runs, a double and a home run. She added three RBI, while collecting eight total bases for a 1.333 slugging percentage. The junior notched her fifth three-hit game of the year, as well as her 12th multi-hit game of the season. Clark went 3-for-4 with a run, a walk and three RBI while hitting her 10th home run of the season in the nightcap. The home run made it the third-straight year in which Clark has had 10 or more. The long ball also was No. 48 of her career, which moved her up to No. 21 all-time in NCAA Division I history.

Other player of the week nominees included: Ashley Cameron, Louisiana Tech; Kristin Stith, Nevada and Elisa Barrios, San Jose State.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK San Jose States Carol Forbes was named the WAC Pitcher of the Week. This is the third honor this season for Forbes.

Forbes, a pitcher from Scottsdale, Ariz., was 2-1, starting three games and pitching one complete game. The senior pitched 23.2 innings with a 1.18 ERA and a 2-1 record. Her only loss came in a 2-0 loss to No. 8 Stanford. She struck out 22 batters and walked just four. She allowed two runs to No. 8 Stanford but struck out five Cardinal batters. The senior struck out seven batters against UTEP on April 8 and six in game two on April 9.

Other pitcher of the week nominees included: Jamie Southern, Fresno State and Jordan McPherson, Nevada.

IN THE CIRCLE In the third complete week of WAC play, only Hawaii and Tulsa have already completed a three-game series. Fresno State will face San Jose State in Fresno. Hawaii remains on the mainland and face UTEP in El Paso.Louisiana Tech has the week off from conference play and will gace UT-San Antonio. Nevada also has the week off from WAC play with a three-game series with Utah Valley State.

FRESNO STATES SOUTHERN WINS NINTH-STRAIGHT Two victories shy of the WACs hallowed win mark and three shy at Fresno State, Jamie Southern is 9-0 in her last nine starts as she has posted five shutouts to go along with a no-hitter, three one-hitters, two two-hitters and a three-hitter. In this win streak, she sports a 0.48 ERA and is averaging 9.1 strikeout per 7/innings pitched. Southern has allowed six runs (four earned) on 23 hits with 11 walks and 75 strikeouts in 58.0 innings. In her last 10 appearances, she has gone 9-0 with a save. In this span, she is showcasing a 0.47 ERA. Southern has allowed 23 hits, six runs (four earned), 11 walks and 81 strikeouts in 60.0 innings as opponents are hitting .114 against.

SOUTHERN NAMED FINALIST After being named to the preseason USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Watch List for the fourth time of her career, Fresno States Jamie Southern has now been selected a Top 25 finalist for this prestigious award for the fourth consecutive time. Announced by the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) on April 6, the Fourth Annual USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Award, which is likened to the Heisman Trophy, recognizes outstanding athletic achievements by collegiate softball players around the nation. Southern was a USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year finalist in 2002 when she was one of the final three chosen. Highlights her senior year include being the first WAC softball player to garner player/pitcher of the week honors in the same week, first Bulldog pitcher to open the season with a no-hitter, MVP of the NFCA Leadoff Classic, sweeping national player of the week awards in the same week, throwing a perfect game out of two no-hitters this season, becoming the 21st NCAA Division I pitcher to post 1,100 career strikeouts

IN THE POLLS For the first time since 2003, a team outside of the Pac 10 Conference is No. 1 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 poll. Michigan, with an incredible 40-3 record, is the top ranked for the third week in a row

Fresno State softball has been no stranger to the national polls. Owning the longest streak for consecutive weeks (179) ranked in NCAA Division I softball history, the Bulldogs have been nationally ranked in the Top 25 for 202 of the 214 weeks since the NCAAs first Top 15 poll in 1983. In addition, Fresno State has been in the nations official Top 25 polls for 23 straight years. This week, the Bulldogs are No. 19 in the NFCA poll and No. 16 in the USA Softball poll.

AGAINST THE BEST WAC schools are 5-32 (.135) against ranked teams this season. Hawaii is one of three teams to defeat a ranked team when it defeated then-No. 9 Washington. Fresno State earned another win over a ranked team with a win over No. 5 Stanford. Fresno State also defeated No. 10 LSU and No. 14 Washington. Tulsa picked up its first win over a ranked team, beating No. 7 Oklahoma. It was the highest team a Golden Hurricane squad had ever defeated. No. 2 Arizona is 4-0 against the WAC with wins against Fresno State, Tulsa and UTEP this season.
