    ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
    Boise States Gabriel Wallin, a senior from Sodertalje, Sweden, posted the number one collegiate mark in the javelin with a throw of 75.75m at the Golden Bear Invitational. Wallins throw was also a NCAA qualifying mark and broke the Edwards Stadium record on the Berkeley, Calif., campus. This was the first meet of the 2005 season for Wallin who is the defending NCAA National Champion in the javelin.

    UTEPs Erma-Gene Evans, a sophomore from Castries, Saint Lucia, broke the Saint Lucia national record in the javelin for the third time this season with a throw of 52.68m. Her throw is the second best in school history, currently leads the WAC and ranks sixth best in the NCAA this year.

    TRACKWIRE RANKINGS
    The Boise State men continue to be ranked this outdoor track and field season with a No. 13 ranking in the Trackwire Top 25. The SMU women entered the top 25 this week, coming in tied for 24th with 10 points. The Broncos post three athletes in the Dandy Dozen with Mattias Jons in the hammer and Gabriel Wallin and Scott Viafore in the javelin. Jons ranks second, while Wallin is first in the country and Viafore is ninth. The UTEP men place four in the top 12. Patrick Mutai is eighth in the steeplechase, while fellow Miner Mircea Bogdan is 12th. Japeth Ngojoy is 12th in the 10,000 meters. Mickael Hanany is ranked fifth in the high jump and 11th in the long jump. For the Mustang women, Gaelle Niare is second in the country in the high jump. Karin van Rooyen is seventh in the 10,000 meters. Louisiana Tech places the 4x400 meter relay team 10th. Techster Brenda-Grace Hunt is second in the country in the javelin. Also in the javelin is UTEPs Erma-Gene Evans who comes in fourth.

    2005 WAC CHAMPIONSHIP
    The 2005 Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship will be held at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium, May 11-14. Tulsa will hosts the conferences final championship of the year. Rice swept the team competition in 2004 on their own track.

    NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP INFORMATION
    The 2005 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held, March 11-12 at the Randal Tyson Indoor Track in Fayetteville, Ark. Arkansas will serve as the host institution. For ticket information call (800) 982.4647

    WAC TO ADD NEW MEMBERS IN 2005
    New Mexico State, Utah State and Idaho will join the Western Athletic Conference fully, beginning July 1, 2005. Utah State and Idaho each school will sponsor a mens and womens teams, while New Mexico State will bring only a womens program.
