15-Year All-WAC Women's Basketball Teams Announced

DENVER The Western Athletic Conference today announced its 15-Year all-WAC womens basketball teams as determined by a fan vote on the WACs web site wacsports.com. The first team consisted of five players: Rices Marla Brumfield, Louisiana Techs Cheryl Ford, Colorado States Becky Hammon, SMUs Karlin Kennedy and Utahs Julie Krommenhoek.

Two-time WAC Player of the Year Cheryl Ford was the top vote getter. Ford is also the WAC career leader in rebound average (10.9) during her two-year career in the WAC. Ford was named the MVP of the 2003 WAC Basketball Tournament when she set a record with 23 rebounds against SMU. Rices Marla Brumfield was one of the first WAC players drafted by the WNBA. Brumfield had a stellar WAC career, finishing tied for fourth in total steals with 311. Colorado States Becky Hammon is the all-time scoring leader in the WAC with 2,740 points. Hammon, a three-time Player of the Year, is also the WAC career leader in total field goals with 918. SMUs Karlin Kennedy, is tied for ninth in career rebound average (7.9). She was the WAC Co-Player of the Year in 1999-2000. Kennedy was a four-time all-WAC honoree. Finally, Utahs Julie Krommenhoek finished with 2,087 points and is fifth all-time in scoring average with 178 points per game. Krommenhoek was named the Mountain Division WAC Player of the Year in 1996-97.

The second team consists of Louisiana Techs Trina Frierson, Hawaiis Raylene Howard, Colorado States Teresa James, San Jose States Cricket Williams and San Diego States Falisha Wright. Louisiana Techs Trina Frierson was an AP Honorable Mention All-American in 2004. She was also a two-time first team all-WAC selection. Hawaiis Raylene Howard was sixth in the WAC in career points, scoring 1,786. She was WAC Co-Player of the Year in 1999-2000 and Pacific Division Freshman of the Year in 1996-97. Colorado States Teresa James is 10th in all-time scoring average (16.2 ppg) and seventh in rebounding average (8.2 rpg). She was a three-time all-WAC selection and winner of the Stan Bates Award Winner in 1996 for the leagues top female athlete. San Jose States Cricket Williams is first all-time in assists with 644 and is tied for fourth all-time in steals with 311. She was a three-time all-WAC selection (2002-04). San Diego States Falisha Wright is ninth in career points scored with 1,733. She is seventh all-time in assists with 448 and was a four-time all-WAC selection.
