DENVER Fresno States Chris Berrian and Hawaiis Novelle Murray have been named the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week.
Berrian, a senior from Winton, Calif., was selected Outstanding Track Performer during Fresno States second-place finish at the Cal-Nevada Championships over the weekend, claiming titles in the 100- and 200-meter races. Berrians performances spearheaded the mens success, as he locked up titles in the 100-meters (10.73) and 200-meters (20.90). Berrian also ran the third leg of the first-place 4x100-meter relay squad (Kenny Moon, Jesse Smith, Rico Morales), which clocked in at 40.41 to qualify for NCAA Regionals.
Murray, a junior from Surrey, British Columbia, broke a 22-year school record with a throw of 54.24m in the discus at the Triton Invitational. Her mark was also the best among WAC athletes this season and the eighth time she eclipsed the NCAA Regional standard. Murray also broke the school record in the hammer throw with an NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 54.04m at the Triton Invitational. That mark eclipsed her previous high by 1.65m and ranks fifth in the WAC. She has qualified for the NCAA Regionals in both events. Murray also competed in the shot put, which she threw 12.12m
