DALLAS - SMU sophomore Colt Knost has been named the Golf World Men's College Player of the Week, the publication announced today.

With a 30-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole in the final round of the Pinehurst (N.C.) Intercollegiate, the Pilot Point, Texas, native clinched medalist honors and a team title for the Mustangs, each by one shot. The final-round 69 gave Knost a six-under 210 on Pinehurst No. 8 to beat Indiana's Jeff Overton.

Knost shot a 71-70-69 at Pinehurst (N.C.) No. 8 and achieved his second college win of his career and of the season, having earned medalist honors at the ClubGlove Intercollegiate last fall.

Knost has a 71.25 stroke average this season and is ranked third in the country nationally in par-4 scoring, with a 3.95 average. The SMU sophomore holds 37th place in the latest Golfstat Cup national ranking and was the Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year in 2004.

Up next for the Mustangs is the Aggie Invitational, April 16-17 in College Station.
