SMU used a final-round charge to secure the 2005 Wells Fargo WAC Men's Golf Championship. SMU's Will Dodson earned individual honors, firing a final round 71 for a three-day 214 (-2). SMU and Tulsa tied during regulation, but the Mustangs won the title during the first-hole playoff.

During the first playoff hole, Tulsa withdrew its team, giving the Mustangs the title. The playoff is set with two players from each team teeing off first, then the final three from each team to follow. The top four scores are recorded, settling the match. The first four golfers had teed off and were standing in the fairway when the match was called. Tulsa withdrew from the match before the final six golfers had hit their first shot.

Tulsa entered the final round with a one-stroke lead, but suffered a bogey on the final hole to tie SMU at 889 (+25). During the first playoff hole, SMU claimed its second-straight WAC title. Taking third was Fresno State which shot a 288 on the final day, with three players firing one-under 71's. In fourth was Nevada at 904, while host school, Louisiana Tech finished fifth (910). Rice brought home sixth (914), Hawaii finished seventh (921) and San Jose State finish eighth (923). Rounding out the field was UTEP (928) and Boise State (937).

SMU, TULSA RECEIVE VOTES IN GCAA AND GOLF WORLD TOP 25
Both SMU and Tulsa are receiving votes in the GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches Poll, while the Mustangs are vote getters in the Golf World College Poll. In four contests this spring, the Mustangs have registered two team championships, taking honors at the Louisiana and Pinehurst Classics. Tulsa gathered nine votes in the most recent poll. The Hurricane finished third at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate, a field with a number of top 25 teams.

    UTEP WINS WYOMING COWBOY CLASSIC
UTEP took first place at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic in Scottsdale, Ariz. It is the Miners first tournament title since September 2002, when they captured the championship of the Falcon Antigua Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo.

LOUISIANA TECH TAKES HAL SUTTON INTERCOLLEGIATE
Louisiana Techs pace slowed in the final round, but a huge advantage still allowed the Bulldogs to take a 23-stroke win at the Hal Sutton Intercollegiate tournament at Stonebridge Golf Course. All five Tech golfers finished in the top ten of individual play. Louisiana Tech fired in a 302 in the final round after turning in opening rounds of 283 and 286, to finish at 870.

    SMU; KNOST WINS PINEHURST CLASSIC
SMU sophomore Colt Knost drained a 30-foot putt on No. 18 to clinch medalist honors and the team title for the Mustang mens golf team at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate. Knosts putt highlighted a final-round 69. He edged Indianas Jeff Overton by one stroke, 210 to 211, and his six-under-par effort led the Mustangs to a one-stroke team win over Xavier, 875 to 876. Two other Mustangs finished in the top five in the 12-team field at the 7,035 yard, par-72 No. 8 Course, as Will Dodson and Scott Abbott both finished at three-over 219 to tie for fifth.

SAN JOSE STATE, KIM WIN ANTEATER INVITATIONAL
San Jose States David Kims even par 72 was one of just four final-round scores of par or better as the Spartan sophomore finished first among 57 players and led the Spartans to the team title at the Anteater Invitational. The victory for San Jose State was its first since capturing the Santa Clara Invitational in November 2001. The Spartans posted an 892 team total, 10 strokes better than UCLA and host UC Irvine. Arizona was fourth in the 10-team field at 903.

    SMU WINS FOURTH-STRAIGHT LOUISIANA CLASSIC
SMU won its fourth consecutive Louisiana Classic championship at the Oakbourne Country Club with a two-round total of six-over-par 582. Tulsa and Kent State finished tied for second with a seven-over-par 583. Louisvilles Daryl Fathauer shot a final-round three-under-par 69 to win the rain-shortened event, while SMU's Dan Kleckner finished tied for second with a two-under-par 142. Kleckner was one of just four players to finish the tournament under par.
