    NCAA REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP INFORMATION
    The 2005 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Regional Championships will be held, May 27-28 at four sites throughout the country. The East Regionals will be held at Randalls Island facility in Riverdale, N.Y., hosted by Manhattan College. The Mideast Regionals are slated for Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex in Bloomington, Ind. (Host, Indiana). The West Regionals are being held in Eugene, Ore., hosted by Oregon. The Ducks will host the event at Hayward Field. The Midwest Regionals will be held on the campus of Oklahoma in Norman, Okla., and John Jacobs Field.

    There are four teams traveling to Eugene from the WAC, Boise State, Fresno State, Hawaii and Nevada. There are also four WAC teams en route to Norman, including Rice, SMU, UTEP and Tulsa. Louisiana Tech is the lone school in the Mideast Region, traveling to Bloomington.

    NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP INFORMATION
    The 2005 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held, June 8-11 at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex in Sacramento, Calif. Sacramento State and the Sacramento Sports Commission are the hosts for this years event. Visit NCAA Sports to view all the latest NCAA Track and Field news.

    UTEP MEN, LOUISIANA TECH WOMEN TAKE WAC OUTDOOR TITLES
    The UTEP men and Louisiana Tech women completed season sweeps, as both teams followed up their WAC Indoor titles with WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The win is UTEP's 44th WAC title, while Louisiana Tech's is its first outdoor. The Miners gathered 208.5 points over the four-day meet, while the Techsters tallied 184. Tulsa played host to the year's final conference championship from the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium in Tulsa, Okla.

    Louisiana Tech, on the strength of its sprinting corps, tallied 184 points for its first Outdoor Track and Field title. Rice fell short in its bid for another WAC title, registering 99.5 points for second. In third was Fresno State with 83.5 points, while Nevada took fourth with 83.5 points. In fifth was UTEP with 82 points, sixth was Hawaii with 69, while Tulsa finished seventh (56). Scoring 51 points and taking eighth was SMU, while Boise State rounded out the women's field scoring 30 points.

    UTEP scored points in all areas in taking home the WAC title with 208.5 points. Fresno State, which had the early lead scored 186.5 points for second. In third was Rice with 122.5 points, while Louisiana Tech finished fourth with 103. In fifth was Boise State which registerd 98.5 points, while Tulsa tallied 84 for sixth.

    Mickael Hanany of UTEP was named Outstanding Performer of the Meet for the men, placing first in all three jumping events. The sophomore from France first accomplished this feet at the WAC Indoor Championship, becoming the first athlete to do so. Louisiana Tech's Doria Appleberry was named the women's Outstanding Performer, taking gold in the 100-meter hurdles, 400-meter hurdles and the 4x400m relay.

    At the end of the meet, the WAC announced its annual awards:

    TRACKWIRE RANKINGS
    The Boise State men continue to be ranked this outdoor track and field season with a No. 20 ranking in the Trackwire Top 25. The UTEP men have entered the rankings coming in 25th. The Broncos post two athletes in the Dandy Dozen with Mattias Jons in the hammer and Gabriel Wallin in the javelin. Jons ranks second, while Wallin is first in the country. The UTEP men place four in the top 12. Patrick Mutai is third in the steeplechase, while fellow Miner Mircea Bogdan is sixth. Japeth Ngojoy is 12th in the 10,000 meters. Mickael Hanany is ranked in three events. Hanany is eighth in the high jump, eighth in the long jump and 12th in the triple jump.

    For the SMU women, Gaelle Niare is ninth in the country in the high jump, while Karin van Rooyen is seventh in the 10,000 meters. Boise Staes Miruna Mataoanu is fifth in the high jump. Rice has a pair ranked with Funmi Jimoh in the high jump (12th) and Krystal Robinson in the discus (3rd). Hawaiis Novelle Murray lands 12th this week in the discus. Louisiana Tech places the 4x100 meter relay team 10th. In the javelin is Boise States Neely Falgout who is second, UTEPs Erma-Gene Evans who comes in sixth and Fresno States Mallory Webb who is 10th.

    WAC TO ADD NEW MEMBERS IN 2005
    New Mexico State, Utah State and Idaho will join the Western Athletic Conference fully, beginning July 1, 2005. Utah State and Idaho each school will sponsor a mens and womens teams, while New Mexico State will bring only a womens program.
