Individually, James Lepp of Washington earned medalist honors with a 276, -4. Mitch Cohlmia was the top Hurricane, tying for 21st (217, +7) before the cut was made. SMU, TULSA, FRESNO STATE, SJSUS KIM AT NCAA REGIONALSTulsa entered the final round in eighth place at the NCAA Central Regional, but was able to move up four spots in the standings. The Hurricane carded its best round of the tournament with a five-over par 285 score to finish in a fourth-place tie and thus advancing to the NCAA Championships for the eighth time in school history. The Hurricane finished with a 54-hole total of 26-over par 866 at the par-71 Warren Golf Course. The top-10 teams advanced to the NCAA Championships, June 1-4, at the Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Md.SMU earned a spot in the 2005 NCAA Mens Golf Championship after placing eighth at the NCAA Central Regional held at the par-70, 7,011-yard Warren Golf Course. This marks the third consecutive year - and fourth of the last five - in which SMU will play for the national championship. The Mustangs shot a final round of six-over-par 286 for a 54-hole total of 873 (+33).Fresno State shot a final-round 292 to finish in 19th place at the NCAA Men's Golf West Regional. Senior Ryan Carter shot a third-round 73 for a 217 total and finished in a tie for 39th place at 7 over. Junior Ryan McDonald notched a 218 total (+8) to finish in a tie for 49th. Very little went well for San Jose States David Kim for the last 36 holes of the 54-hole NCAA Division I Mens Golf West Regional Championships. Kim had four double bogeys in the final round for his second straight 82 and a 237 total. SMU CLAIMS 2005 WAC CHAMPIONSHIPSMU used a final-round charge to secure the 2005 Wells Fargo WAC Men's Golf Championship. SMU's Will Dodson earned individual honors, firing a final round 71 for a three-day 214 (-2). SMU and Tulsa tied during regulation, but the Mustangs won the title during the first-hole playoff.During the first playoff hole, Tulsa withdrew its team, giving the Mustangs the title. The playoff is set with two players from each team teeing off first, then the final three from each team to follow. The top four scores are recorded, settling the match. The first four golfers had teed off and were standing in the fairway when the match was called. Tulsa withdrew from the match before the final six golfers had hit their first shot.Tulsa entered the final round with a one-stroke lead, but suffered a bogey on the final hole to tie SMU at 889 (+25). During the first playoff hole, SMU claimed its second-straight WAC title. Taking third was Fresno State which shot a 288 on the final day, with three players firing one-under 71's. In fourth was Nevada at 904, while host school, Louisiana Tech finished fifth (910). Rice brought home sixth (914), Hawaii finished seventh (921) and San Jose State finish eighth (923). Rounding out the field was UTEP (928) and Boise State (937).SMU's Will Dodson fired a 72-71-71 for a 214 (-2) to claim medalist honors. It is the Miners first tournament title since September 2002, when they captured the championship of the Falcon Antigua Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo.LOUISIANA TECH TAKES HAL SUTTON INTERCOLLEGIATELouisiana Techs pace slowed in the final round, but a huge advantage still allowed the Bulldogs to take a 23-stroke win at the Hal Sutton Intercollegiate tournament at Stonebridge Golf Course. All five Tech golfers finished in the top ten of individual play. Louisiana Tech fired in a 302 in the final round after turning in opening rounds of 283 and 286, to finish at 870.SMU; KNOST WINS PINEHURST CLASSICSMU sophomore Colt Knost drained a 30-foot putt on No. 18 to clinch medalist honors and the team title for the Mustang mens golf team at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate. Knosts putt highlighted a final-round 69. He edged Indianas Jeff Overton by one stroke, 210 to 211, and his six-under-par effort led the Mustangs to a one-stroke team win over Xavier, 875 to 876. Two other Mustangs finished in the top five in the 12-team field at the 7,035 yard, par-72 No. 8 Course, as Will Dodson and Scott Abbott both finished at three-over 219 to tie for fifth.SAN JOSE STATE, KIM WIN ANTEATER INVITATIONALSan Jose States David Kims even par 72 was one of just four final-round scores of par or better as the Spartan sophomore finished first among 57 players and led the Spartans to the team title at the Anteater Invitational. The victory for San Jose State was its first since capturing the Santa Clara Invitational in November 2001. The Spartans posted an 892 team total, 10 strokes better than UCLA and host UC Irvine. Arizona was fourth in the 10-team field at 903.SMU WINS FOURTH-STRAIGHT LOUISIANA CLASSICSMU won its fourth consecutive Louisiana Classic championship at the Oakbourne Country Club with a two-round total of six-over-par 582. Tulsa and Kent State finished tied for second with a seven-over-par 583. Louisvilles Daryl Fathauer shot a final-round three-under-par 69 to win the rain-shortened event, while SMU's Dan Kleckner finished tied for second with a two-under-par 142. Kleckner was one of just four players to finish the tournament under par.WELCOME TO THE WACNext season, Idaho, New Mexico State and Utah State will join the WAC. All three schools sponsor a mens golf program. The schools will join the WAC July 1, 2005.
