The American Baseball Coaches Association has announced that both Beau Mills and Nick Moresi have been named to the 2005 All-West Region Team. Mills, a freshman that finished the season with 22 home runs and was a unanimous Freshman All-American selection, was named as the first-team third baseman, while Moresi, a sophomore that led the team in hitting with a .352 average, was selected as an outfielder on the second team.
The ABCA regional squads are determined from all 288 Division I schools. The West Region consists of 34 member schools, and each head coach nominates players for consideration and votes to select a first and second All-West Region Team.
Both Mills and Moresi have received numerous awards this postseason. Moresi was named as a first-team All-WAC outfielder after finishing in the top 5 in RBI, batting average and home runs among all conference players, and was also named the team?™s gold glove winner as the best defensive player. Mills, in addition to his nod as a Freshman All-American, was named Freshman of the Year by the WAC and was a first-team All-WAC member. Mills was also one of two third baseman invited to the Team USA tryouts earlier this month.
Fresno State had a member of its team selected in 2004 as well, when first-round draft pick and 2004 All- American Richie Robnett was selected as a first-team All-West Region Team outfielder. Robnett was the first Bulldog selected to the first-team All-West Region squad since Jeff Weaver in 1998.
