Tech Baseball Signee Named Texas 3A MVP

RUSTON, La. ?“ Louisiana Tech baseball signee Luke Burnett has been named the Texas Class 3A Most Valuable Player by the Texas Sports Writers Association.

The 6'9" Burnett, who was tabbed MVP of the Texas Class 3A tournament after leading Carthage High School to a 6-1 victory over Lubbock Cooper, went 13-1 for Carthage as a senior and was a 35th-round draft pick by the Kansas City Royals before deciding to enroll at Louisiana Tech to play for Coach Wade Simoneaux's Bulldogs.

In the Texas 3A championship game win, Burnett allowed three hits in the first two innings but did not surrender a run until the fifth inning. He struck out five batters to cap off Carthage's 37-4 season with a state title.
