The Western Athletic Conference welcomes back gymnastics for the 2006 season. The last season the WAC had gymnastics was 1993. The last WAC Championship was held at Boise Pavillion on March 20, 1993. Utah captured that title. Southern Utah and Boise State are the only team?™s from that championship competing in the current WAC.

XBOX LIVE GYMNAST OF THE WEEK ?“ Cal State Fullerton?™s Nicole Lim has been named the Xbox Live Western Athletic Conference Gymnast of the Week for the week of Jan. 9. This is the first Gymnast of the Week honor.
sLim, a junior from Oakland, Calif., helped the Titans to a third-place finish at home. In the Titans?™ season-opening meet, Lim was part of a 1-2 finish for Fullerton on beam, finishing second with a 9.65. She finished the meet with a win on the floor exercise, sharing individual honors with North Carolina State?™s Kylah Bachman with a 9.65 on the apparatus.
sOther nominees included: Trista Condren of Sacaramento State tied for seventh in the meet with a 9.625 in the floor exercise and ranked second on the team in beam with a 9.475 … Raylyn Cardeno of San Jose State placed second with a career-best 9.825 in the vault at Cal State Fullerton … Jessica Parenti of Utah State won the all-around title at Cal State Fullerton, finishing third on the beam (9.625) and third on the vault (9.8).
BOISE STATE SET TO BEGIN THIS WEEK - Boise State opens the 2006 season with a dual meet againsts Arizona State, Friday, Jan. 13. Arizona State was ranked 14th in the preseason coaches poll. While the Broncos did not break into the coaches?™ top 25 poll, Boise State, which tied for 20th with Arizona State last spring in the final NCAA National standings, did receive votes. The Broncos two seniors, Kea Cuaresma and Katie Dinsmore, and the team?™s three juniors, Kristin Aldrich, Lindsay Ward and Tara Oberg, are all experienced aggressive competitors who know what it will take for the Broncos to retain their top 20 status.
2006 WAC GYMNASTICS MEET ?“ The first WAC Gymnastics Championship since 1993 will be help in Logan, Utah on the campus of Utah State. The meet will rotate schools every year. This year?™s meet will be held March 25.
REGIONAL AND NATIONALS ?“ The west coast will be the site NCAA Championship this season as Oregon State and Gill Coliseum will host the 2005 NCAA Championship on April 20-22, 2006. The WAC will compete in the West Regional on April 8 in Stanford, Calif.

Cal State Fullerton Titans (1-2, 1-1 WAC)
Junior Jaime Howe won individual honors on bars for the Titans with a 9.675 in the first meet of the season ... junior Erica Ficarrotta also finished in the top five, tied for fourth with a 9.625 ... freshman Jessica Tait made the biggest splash on the afternoon, bringing home individual honors on beam in her first career meet, scoring a 9.675 to win the event ... teammate Nicole Lim finished second with a 9.65 to lead another 1-2 Titans finish.
Sacramento State Hornets (0-5, 0-0 WAC)
Senior Trista Condren tied for seventh on floor and sophomore Alexis Tsurumoto tied for seventh on bars to lead the Sacramento State gymnastics team in its first meet of the season ... as a team, the Hornets finished sixth in the meet which was won by No. 3 UCLA ... Condren and Tsurumoto were the only two Hornets to finish in the top 10 in any of the four events ... Condren scored 9.625 on the floor while Tsurumoto recorded a 9.725 on bars.
San Jose State Spartans (2-1, 2-0 WAC)
The Spartans started the 2006 season with a second place finish at CS Fullerton with a 188.450 team score ...s the Spartans finished second to NC State who scored a 188.575 ...s junior Raylyn Cardeno was the Spartans?™ top-finisher with a second place on the vault with a 9.825 and seventh on the floor with a 9.525.
Southern Utah Thunderbirdss (0-0, 0-0 WAC)
The Thunderbirds start the 2006 season on the road against Oklahoma on Jan. 20 ... the Thunderbirds return four starters: Tanner, Shaw, Sakhitab and Langley. Cummings and Sharpe figure to be the fifth and sixth competitors heading into the season, but Keeno and Hicks are extremely capable as well.
Utah State Aggies (0-3, 0-2 WAC)
Aggie gymnast Jessica Parenti won the all-around with a 38.175 as Utah State gymnastics placed fourth in its opening meet of the 2006 season ... Utah State finished with a team score of 187.925 to finish behind meet champion N.C. State, second-place San Jose State and third-place Cal State Fullerton ... Parenti easily won the all-around with a third place finish on beam (9.625) and a tie for the third place on vault (9.800).s
