All Six Gymnastics Teams in Action this Week

Boise States team hosts its second meet to open the season onFriday, Jan. 20 at 7:00 p.m. in the Taco Bell Arena when the Broncos host UC-Davis in Beauty and the Beast 2006. The Broncos are ranked 35th nationally, which is second behind Utah State?™s No. 32 ranking. In the first gymnastics meet of 2006 for both Boise State and Arizona State, the Sun Devils defeated the Broncos 193.15 to 189.95 in front of an enthusiastic crowd of 1,084 in the Taco Bell Arena (Jan. 13).

XBOX LIVE GYMNAST OF THE WEEK ?“ Utah State?™s Jessica Parenti has been named the Xbox Live Western Athletic Conference Gymnast of the Week for the week of Jan. 17. This is the Aggies first WAC Gymnast of the Week honor.

Parenti, a senior from Glendora, Calif., won the all-around title for the second-straight week with a score of 39.250, as Utah State placed second with a 192.875 against eighth-ranked LSU (194.050), Texas Woman?™s (190.475) and Centenary (188.125). The Aggies are now 2-4 overall, and 0-2 in the WAC. Parenti won the all-around with a second-place finish on floor (9.875) and a six-way tie for second on bars (9.775). She had a third-place finish on beam (9.880) and a fourth place finish on vault with a 9.880.

Other nominees included: Tiffany Bass of Sacramento State finished second on the floor (9.700) and tied for fifth on vault (9.600) as the Hornets finished second in a four-way meet that included Stanford … Renae Moneymaker of San Jose State finished fourth in the all-around in her first time competing in the event.

GYMNASTICS RETURNS TO THE WAC - The Western Athletic Conference welcomes back gymnastics for the 2006 season. The last season the WAC had gymnastics was 1993. The last WAC Championship was held at Boise Pavillion on March 20, 1993. Utah captured that title. Southern Utah and Boise State are the only team?™s from that championship competing in the current WAC.

2006 WAC GYMNASTICS MEET ?“ The first WAC Gymnastics Championship since 1993 will be help in Logan, Utah on the campus of Utah State. The meet will rotate schools every year. This year?™s meet will be held March 25.

REGIONAL AND NATIONALS ?“ The west coast will be the site NCAA Championship this season as Oregon State and Gill Coliseum will host the 2005 NCAA Championship on April 20-22, 2006. The WAC will compete in the West Regional on April 8 in Stanford, Calif.

Boise State Broncos (0-1, 0-0 WAC)
Boise State fell to Arizona State 193.15 to 189.95 in front of a crowd of 1,084 in the Taco Bell Arena (Jan. 13) ... Boise State scored 48.95 on vault led by senior Katie Dinsmore?™s 9.875 ... Boise State scored a 47.85 on bars led by Taylor Jacob?™s 9.675 ... in the third rotation, the Broncos scored 47.875 on beam led by a 9.85 by junior Lindsay Ward ... In the final rotation, Arizona State won the meet on the beam with a 48.8.

Cal State Fullerton Titans (1-2, 1-1 WAC)
Junior Jaime Howe won individual honors on bars for the Titans with a 9.675 in the first meet of the season ... this week, the Titans return to the action against Sacramento State in Sacramento ... Alaska-Fairbanks will also be competing in the meet ... the Hornets are the third WAC opponent that the Titans have faced in this young season.

Sacramento State Hornets (2-7, 1-0 WAC)
Sacramento State got its first win against a WAC opponent, finishing secon ahead of San Jose State at a a quad meet against the Spartans, Stanford and UC Davis ... the Hornets finished with a score of 191.525 ... Sacramento State also lost to California with a scored of 191.625 ... this week, the Hornets host Cal State Fullerton and Alaska-Anchorage.

San Jose State Spartans (3-2, 2-1 WAC)
San Jose State finished third Sunday afternoon at Stanford with a 190.575 ...s freshman Renae Moneymaker finished fourth in the all-around with a 38.050 ... Moneymaker competed in the all-around for the first time in her collegiate career ... she was the Spartans?™ top finisher on the floor with a 9.425 ... her best scores of the day came on the vault and beam with a 9.575 on each ... she scored 9.475 on the bars.

Southern Utah Thunderbirdss (0-0, 0-0 WAC)
The Thunderbirds start the 2006 season on the road against Oklahoma on Jan. 20 ... the Thunderbirds return four starters: Tanner, Shaw, Sakhitab and Langley. Cummings and Sharpe figure to be the fifth and sixth competitors heading into the season, but Keeno and Hicks are extremely capable as well.

Utah State Aggies (2-4, 0-2 WAC)
Jessica Parenti won the all-around for the second- straight meet ... she scored a 39.250 in a meet which featured eighth-ranked LSU, as well as host Texas Woman?™s and Centenary ... the Aggies placed second in the meet behind LSU ... Parenti was second on the floor and bars and was third on the beam ... last week, Parenti was the all-around champion in a four-team meet at Cal State Fullerton.
